Tasting notes
"Lots of ripe berry and cherry character with chocolate, walnut and spice undertones. It's full-bodied with an intense, juicy finish. Needs time to come together. Better after 2022." 93/100, James Suckling, Aug 2020
"This wine represents a special selection of organic Sangiovese. The Tenuta di Capezzana 2016 Ugo Contini Bonacossi shows great balance and harmony with highly distinctive varietal aromas. It opens to wild berry, cherry, pressed violet and earth. However, these aromas are slightly darker or heavier in character, keeping in line with the distinctive qualities of a growing region located west of Florence toward the Tyrrhenian Sea. This expression saw 4,939 bottles made." 92/100, Monica Larner, Robert Parker, Dec 2020
The wine & Estate
This pure Sangiovese comes from the Viticciana vineyard. This vineyard was commissioned by Patriarch of the family, Ugo Contini Bonacossi who also had a hand in design and build. It has the characteristic of having the rows interrupted by two "gabled" roads, counter-sloping, which channel rainwater and avoid the erosion of the precious earth. The rows are embellished with rose plants chosen by him and lovingly watered in summer. Perfect exposure. The grapes are harvested by hand.
