Fattoria dei Barbi did not merely make Brunello — it helped create it. Pioneers of the appellation, the first to sell Brunello by mail order, the first to export it to America, England and Japan, and the creators of one of the original Super Tuscans in 1969.

The Colombini have been one of Siena's noble families since the 11th century, and present in Montalcino since 1352. Today Stefano Cinelli Colombini runs the family estate, heir to a line that helped invent Brunello itself.

Barbi was a pioneer: among the first to export bottled Tuscan wine to France, the first to sell Brunello by mail order, the first to reach America (1962), England (1969) and Japan (1975), and the creator of one of the first 'Super Tuscans', Brusco dei Barbi (1969).
