The story of Sicily

Italy's most exciting emerging wine region — Nero d'Avola and Frappato from the volcanic southeast, driven by a new generation of passionate producers.

Sicily has spent decades emerging from bulk wine mediocrity to genuine fine wine status — and its most exciting producers are now making wines that rival anything Italy can offer. The indigenous varieties Nero d'Avola and Frappato from the southeastern Vittoria zone are the focus: grown organically in a Mediterranean climate that needs minimal intervention.

Arianna Occhipinti is our standard-bearer here — her certified-organic, biodynamically farmed wines from 25 hectares in Vittoria are among the most individual and honest expressions of Sicilian viticulture. As she says: 'It's stupid not to be organic in Sicily. We have the perfect climate.'
