Germany's most geologically diverse wine region — volcanic and slate soils on the Nahe tributary produce Riesling of extraordinary mineral complexity.

The Nahe is one of Germany's most geologically diverse wine regions — the Nahe river runs through a series of ancient volcanic plugs, blue slate and red sandstone formations that give its wines a complexity and individual character unlike any other German region.

Schlossgut Diel — now run by Caroline Diel from the medieval castle at Burg Layen — makes wines from three sites of extraordinary individual character: Goldloch, Burgberg and Pittermännchen. Their Riesling Kabinett and Spätlese from the Goldloch are among the finest off-dry Rieslings made anywhere in the world.
