Tasting notes

“What an exciting nose, in which aromas of Thai basil and tart pineapple mingle with chamomile and white peach. Then comes the juicy but elegant and straight palate where the sweetness is in the background of the mineral freshness. Super clean, silky finish. Drink or hold.” 95/100, James Suckling, Aug 2020

The producer

Schlossgut Diel Burg Layen, Germany

Schlossgut Diel, built around a medieval castle above Burg Layen in the Nahe, is one of Germany's most celebrated Riesling estates. The wines of Armin Diel earned the estate a legendary reputation during the 1990s and 2000s: precise, mineral, age-worthy Rieslings from the steep Goldloch, Burgberg and Pittermännchen sites.

Today his daughter Caroline Diel continues the work, farming the same singular vineyards with the same dedication to expressing the Nahe's blue-slate and volcanic terroir — among the most complex and individual in all of Germany.
