The story of Piedmont

The home of Barolo and Barbaresco — Italy's most structured and age-worthy reds from Nebbiolo on the Langhe hills.

Piedmont occupies the northwest corner of Italy — the Langhe hills around the town of Alba are home to Barolo and Barbaresco, the two great DOCGs of Nebbiolo. These wines are Italy's answer to Burgundy: mineral, aromatic, complex, and built for decades of ageing.

The great Barolo crus — Arborina, Gattera, Castelletto (Mauro Veglio), Bricco Boschis (Cavallotto), Vigna Francia (Giacomo Conterno) — have distinct personalities shaped by their soils: Serralunga's compact Helvetian soil gives power, La Morra's calcareous clay gives elegance and perfume. Both are extraordinary.
