Tasting notes

2020 Vintage
The Fattoria dei Barbi 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore adds an extra layer of aromatic intensity compared to the village release. The wine is redolent of forest berry, sour cherry and blue flower. The bouquet remains a little closed initially. This is a wine that will certainly benefit from cellar aging. Some 10,000 bottles were created. 95/100, Monica Larner, Nov 2024

2019 Vintage
The Fattoria dei Barbi 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a darker and more concentrated expression with plum, cooked cherry, balsam herb, cola, pressed blue flower and toasted spice. Compared to the village bottling, this wine takes the intensity up a notch and offers lots of textured richness. There is a clear chalkiness to the tannins. The score gap between this bottle and the classic Brunello does not meet the price point difference (which is almost double for the Vigna del Fiore). However, with only 4,000 bottles made, this wine will prove more challenging to locate. 96/100, Monica Larner, Nov 2024

Juicy and expressive nose of crushed tomatoes, potpourri, and red plums with some coffee and cedar. Full-bodied with solid tannins and balanced acidity. Orange aftertaste. Savory and complex. Fascinating now but will go even further after 2028. 94/100 James Suckling, Sept 2023

2013 Vintage
"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a superb wine from an estate that boasts some of the most prized pedigree in Montalcino. This wine made me so happy to taste. Its various elements of spice, dark fruit and textural fortitude come together with seamless precision. Of course, you get that bright acidity on the close that keeps the palate ready for the next sip. These characteristics bode well for its future cellar longevity. The winemaking style is classic and contemporary at once. Only 4,000 bottles were produced." 95/100, Monica Larner, Robertparker.com, Mar 2018

The producer

Fattoria dei Barbi Montalcino, Italy

The Colombini have been one of Siena's noble families since the 11th century, and present in Montalcino since 1352. Today Stefano Cinelli Colombini runs the family estate, heir to a line that helped invent Brunello itself.

Barbi was a pioneer: among the first to export bottled Tuscan wine to France, the first to sell Brunello by mail order, the first to reach America (1962), England (1969) and Japan (1975), and the creator of one of the first 'Super Tuscans', Brusco dei Barbi (1969).
