Two Châteauneuf-du-Pape — Marcoux 1998 and Beaucastel 2005 — for a wonderful wine evening.
After debating whether to decant the 1998 or just open and air, we decanted. Fully mature and integrated tannin, very little fruit, very elegant and pleasing — just the last hints of acidity, near end of life before a last hurrah.
Château de Beaucastel was elegant, the last vestige of fruit amidst silky tannins. We also carry the extraordinary Vieux Telegraphe La Crau Blanc and the Janasse Cuvée Chaupin for those exploring the Rhône.
