The house's iconic non-vintage Champagne — a Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier blend prized for its finesse. Brioche, citrus and white flowers with a fine, persistent mousse.

The producer

Pol Roger Épernay, France

Founded in Épernay in 1849, Pol Roger is one of Champagne's great family houses — still independently owned, still making wine from a cluster of premier and grand cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne.

The house became famous beyond France as Winston Churchill's Champagne of choice. He is said to have drunk his first Pol Roger at a lunch in 1908 and ordered it ever after. Out of respect at his death in 1965, Pol Roger bordered its labels in black for a period of mourning — a gesture that still defines the house's attachment to its most celebrated admirer.
